Shady Side Academy students Emily Harmon '08 and Gauri Joshi '10, along with Science Department Chair Dr. Kathy Malone attended “Introduce a Girl to Engineering” at Westinghouse Electric Company's Waltz Mill site in Madison, PA on Thursday, November 6. The program, intended to encourage young women to pursue careers in Engineering, was presented in cooperation with the Pittsburgh Chapter of Women in Nuclear.
Students from area schools participated along with their advisors. Activities included a welcome by Michelle DeWitt, Vice President Nuclear Services Repair, Replacement and Automation Services; overviews of pressurized water reactors and radiation, and four workshops. One of the workshops demonstrated the ROSA(TM) robot that's used for eddy current testing of steam generators.
