6th Grade celebrates International Pi Day
On Thursday, March 13th, the 6th graders finished their chapter on the characteristics
of polygons and circles. So it was only appropriate that they spent March
14th, International Pi Day (3.14 - get it?), by trying to find Pi in pies!
Pi is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter and is approximately
3.141529..., so the students measured the circumference and diameters of their
individual Oatmeal Creme Pies or Chocolate Fudge Pies and the class calculated
the ratios to see how close to pi they came. It was a fun (and tasty) way
to start Spring Break!
